Yes—bird-safe, unsalted, unroasted peanuts only. Use a mesh peanut feeder (especially in breeding season) to prevent chicks taking whole nuts. Peanut granules are a safer alternative for small birds.
Hearts/chips are husk-free (no mess, easy to eat). Black sunflower has a thin shell (easier than striped). Striped has a harder shell, suiting larger beaks and slowing consumption.
Try 50% sunflower hearts/chips, 25% millet/nyjer (for small species), 15% oats or groats, 10% peanut granules. Adjust based on what clears in 1–2 days.
Choose no-husk options (hearts/chips), add a seed tray/catcher, and offer only what birds eat in 1–2 days. Sweep up regularly; store seed airtight.
